After a summer of roaming the pastures and fattening up on non-medicated grain, vegetables, and apples, our turkeys are ready for harvest in late October. Our animals spend all season running around, fertilizing the soil, putting waste veggies to good use, and contributing to the diversification of the farm. Their snow white feathers say it all about how birds are raised at Sweetland; clean and healthy. Thanks for eating local, wholesome, delicious meat, raised outdoors on green pasture!
We raise our birds during the peak of summer and plan for an early fall harvest, before short days and cold nights stress our pastured animals. This means that our Thanksgiving turkeys come to you frozen. Ironically, this is actually the freshest way for you to get your holiday bird!
In a typical grocery store, a conventionally-raised “fresh” turkey has quite likely been sitting at just above freezing temperatures for weeks, waiting until the holiday rush. Once the big day approaches, the turkeys are warmed up to refrigerator temperatures for you to purchase. Not so fresh after all, despite meeting the technical USDA definition!
At Sweetland our turkeys are processed right at our farm to avoid transportation stress. After being carefully harvested and packaged according to strict USDA guidelines, they are frozen immediately to protect quality and maintain high standards of food safety. We offer multiple pickup dates and USDA-approved tips and techniques for defrosting and cooking pasture-raised turkey, so you can thaw the bird on your schedule and cook a memorable feast.
Turkeys are $6.90 per pound. We collect a non-refundable deposit to reserve your bird. We take pre-orders on a first come first served basis, so don’t delay!
