We hope you’ve been lifting weights lately, because this week’s CSA boxes are weighing in at nearly 25 pounds! Thanksgiving is upon us, and we want your holiday table to be brimming with Sweetland goodies next Thursday. Sitting down to a meal made with all farm-grown produce is always satisfying, but sharing the bounty with friends and family around a holiday table makes everything taste even better. So fire up the oven and start cooking!
With a big share and a small crew, this past week was mostly dedicated to harvest and wash pack work. Hats off to Emily, who single handedly harvested over 300 pounds of Brussels sprouts, and to Trey who agreed to come in for a few extra afternoons to help bag and pack everything up. The root washer was busy rinsing potatoes and celeriac, the greens spinner whirred through the spinach, the sweet potato and winter squash bins were raided, and the last of the herbs were snipped before succumbing to the cold. Though we are down to our “winter weight” crew these days, as the boxes filled I smiled remembering all the hands who helped grow this food all season long. We are so grateful for our amazing farm crew, and for the community that we are honored to feed.
Whether you are hosting or traveling next week, planning a feast or a simple meal, we hope you take a moment to appreciate the food on your table and the people who grew, purchased, and cooked it. Happy eating, and don’t forget to save room for pie!
Cheers,
Norah and the Sweetland Crew
Week 3 Winter Harvest
Yukon Gold Potatoes
Sweet Potatoes
Yellow onions
Celeriac
Butternut Squash
Spinach
Herb Bouquet (rosemary, thyme, sage)
Pie apples (summer rambo & macoun)
Brussels Sprouts (Note, we are giving out an extra .5 pounds of sprouts in each share because they are “unprocessed.” This means you will need to trim the ends and peel the outer leaves off before using, and may have a few discards if there are cabbage aphids hiding in the inner leaves. We just didn’t have the capacity to process 100+ shares’ worth!)
